Life Update (I'm moving!)

Hi everyone! If you are reading this, I hope you are happy and healthy. Thanksgiving is coming up and I cannot wait! Let's dive into my life and why I haven't been around much...

We're Moving!!

*There's lot of feels here so please excuse me if all of this is a jumbled mess. I'm kinda everywhere lol.*

Yes, that's right...my husband and I, along with our two cats and one chinchilla are moving. Technically not until January though. But we've been SUPER busy looking at houses. Well, we found a beautiful house only 5 minutes from where we currently live and put in an offer. And they accepted it! (I still cannot believe we found a house in this market!) I think some people, or maybe most enjoy the process. Let me tell you, this has been crazy stressful. But, we found a house we love so it's ALL been WORTH IT!!

We've been looking since July. Basically, my MIL (Mother-in-Law) moved into our two bedroom Condo with my husband and I. I love my MIL but we quickly found out we needed space, badly. It wasn't isn't the worst situation but we've been used to being on our own for 12 years. I mean, my kitchen and dining area are on the other side of my bedroom wall, so... lol

Plus, we've been wanting a house a for a while now anyway...

Let me add, when this is all said and done, and I am looking back at the past 6 months living w/ my MIL, I will be thankful for the experience and time spent with her. Here's some of the things I'm grateful for:

  1. I got to get to know my MIL again. She lived an hour and a half away and we work a lot so we weren't able to see her as much as we'd like.
  2. My husband & MIL were able to rekindle their relationship. (I won't go into it but this is great that she's around all the time.)
  3. She helps around the house.
  4. I know she's going to be living in a safe, clean living environment.

We decided to give my MIL our condo to live in. Way back in 2008, when we bought the condo, we both worked TONS of overtime and basically didn't spend a dime on anything that wasn't an absolute need (lots of library books to read!) and we were able to save up and pay off the mortgage in two years. (No, we aren't anywhere near rich. We only have HS educations and both work in warehouses. Just lots of holey socks lol)

This past week has been full of writing the offer, getting things ready for the loan officer, inspections and TONS of working. I joked with my husband that we picked the worst time to buy a house, our busy season at work (we work together.). But of course, we didn't expect to find a house this soon.

Since July, we've explored buying existing houses, building both custom and non-custom. In the end, we bought an existing house. Brand new houses were too expensive, we just weren't comfortable with the bottom dollar on them.

Thankfully, we won't have much to do other than pack from now until closing in January!

But in the end, it's all worth it.

I'm Still Reading...

Just not nearly as much as I'd like. Life will slow down and return to normal soon. My goal is to start reading & blogging at a more consistent schedule by February, March at the VERY latest. We should be moved in by then, unpacked and work will have slowed down.

I'm going to have my very own book room! I still can't believe it! (My books are currently in my living room on my entertainment center shelves.) We will be turning the study into a home library and I cannot wait! It'll just be an empty room until we save up more money but at least I got the room! I'll post a picture below and some of the shelves I'm imagining...

What to you think? I might change it up and go old-school wooden shelving, who knows!

Books...

So I mentioned above that I've still been reading. I just haven't actually finished any books lol. I'm still reading Midnight Sun. I ended up loving it but setting it down in order to read & review a book sent to me and just never got back around to finishing it. I ended up picking up another book last week; Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine.

I loved her Morganville Vampire series although I still haven't finished the entire series. I'm incredibly sad about her passing and thought, what better way to honor an remember her than by reading her books? I'm currently only 10% in but will NOT pick up another book until I finish this one.

What have you been reading and how's life been lately? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Congrats on the house! We moved this year and selling our old house was the worst part of the experience. You'll get to skip that part and do something really nice for your mother-in-law. I have a book room in my old house and I love it. I just have a bunch of bookshelves around the perimeter of the room but I love it. I was very sad about Rachel Caine's death. I do need to get busy reading more of her work very soon.

    1. Hi Carole,

Firstly, thank you for stopping by. I know it's been a LONG time since I've been on here. :)

The only part I'm dreading is moving and helping my MIL buy furniture at the same time. But I'm taking 2 weeks off work so hopefully I'll get some relaxing time in between all of the chaos.

      Happy Thanksgiving!
