The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband: Rokesbys #2
by Julia Quinn
{Review & Giveaway}

While you were sleeping...

With her brother Thomas injured on the battlefront in the Colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead, she chooses option three and travels across the Atlantic, determined to nurse her brother back to health. But after a week of searching, she finds not her brother but his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He's unconscious and in desperate need of her care, and Cecilia vows that she will save this soldier's life, even if staying by his side means telling one little lie...

I told everyone I was your wife

When Edward comes to, he's more than a little confused. The blow to his head knocked out six months of his memory, but surely he would recall getting married. He knows who Cecilia Harcourt is—even if he does not recall her face—and with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be true, even though he'd always assumed he'd marry his neighbor back in England.

If only it were true...

Cecilia risks her entire future by giving herself—completely—to the man she loves. But when the truth comes out, Edward may have a few surprises of his own for the new Mrs. Rokesby.

My Review...

It's been ages since I've picked up a Julia Quinn book and I'm not sure why. As with all of her other books (especially her Bridgerton's series) I absolutely adored, loved and am obsessed with this book! I always tell everyone who loves romance and a HEA (Happily Ever After) that this is the author who writes Regency Romance for EVERYONE, even those who don't like Regency Romance!

For those of you who want to pick up this book don't worry, you don't have to read the previous book or any of her other books to enjoy this one! (Admittedly I didn't read the first book in this series titled Because of Miss Bridgerton although I do plan on it.)

The Setting - Unlike any of Julia's previous books this one is set in New York during the Revolutionary War. I loved it because of the beautifully descriptive writing, it pulled me in and made me feel as if I were actually there. I felt for Cecilia and Edward being surrounded by war in a foreign country.

*There's a particular scene I loved that takes place at a Dutch Bakery and talks about Speculaas, they are a type of cookie. I've in included a recipe that you can find HERE.

The Romance- There are these heartfelt letters written initially between Cecilia and her brother Thomas and eventually Cecelia and Edward start writing to one another (before ever meeting face to face) and they were adorable! The romance in this story is the epitome of what I look for in a book. Quite honestly it's hard for me to put into words, it's more of a "SQUEE I LOVED IT"!

All-in-All: This book is perfect for...
  1. Historical Romance Fans.
  2. If you love the Amnesia Trope.
  3. In search of a swoon-worthy, giddy HEA.
  4. Or if you'd like to branch out and try Regency Romance for the first time!

About the Author...

Julia Quinn is the New York Times bestselling author of twenty-five novels for Avon Books, and one of only sixteen authors ever to be inducted in the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family.

Without further ado here are my top ten 5 book to movie adaptations I'm looking forward to! (I couldn't think of ten!)
