Finding herself stranded in a new city, eighteen-year-old Ember Bloom thought she’d reached her all time low. She was wrong. A mindless walk to a dead-end job landed her in the path of her gambling fathers’ enemies. Her only defense was a stranger, Slayton Winslow, a known enforcer and fighter—rumored to be Odin’s prince, underground royalty. On sight, Slayton stole her breath and rushed her heart. Slayton’s enigmatic attraction to her, how stoically he shielded her only churned Ember’s attraction to the bad boy who had given her safe haven in a real life hell. The draw to him, how he could reach her without saying a word, gave her a reason to fight, to awaken. She knew every second could be their last in the city seeded with treacherous deceit and life threatening power plays.
My Thoughts...
Warning: This book has explicit scenes that I do not recommend for anyone under 18, read at your own risk.
Disengaged is a dark romance that I did not see coming. The synopsis did not prepare me in any way for this book! I honestly thought I was going to read a paranormal book, but no, this is as contemporary as you can get. I don't read a lot of contemporaries and I'm so glad I didn't know this was one or I may have passed over this one.

Another thing about this book, it's VERY GRAPHIC. One more reason I would've skipped over it if I had've known. But I am so very glad that I didn't know those things going in. I would've missed out on a heartfelt, amazing book.

Ember Bloom falls into a situation that was completely unavoidable on her part. Her grandmother passes away and she's forced to move in with her father. This part reminded me of the movie Save the Last Dance, well the part where she moved from the safety of the suburbs/country into the inner city into a low income neighborhood. Oh and the part where she falls for a 'bad boy' and doesn't care what others think.

Once she falls for Slayton Winslow the book veers into more Cruel Intentions territory, trade Ryan Phillippe with a young Jean Claude Van Damme. This book is not for the faint of heart, there's some pretty tough subject matter.

A plot twist like no other: But the plot...oh my the plot twist I would NEVER ever ever seen coming if I were to bet my life on it! The ending was beautiful in every way!

All-in-All: Disengaged is a story of two broken people finding each other and helping one another heal. I'd recommend this book to those who loved the movie Cruel Intentions and who is okay with explicit scenes. Not for the faint of heart!
About Jamie...
Jamie Magee has always believed that each of us have a defining gift that sets us apart from the rest of the world, she has always envied those who have known from their first breath what their gift was. Not knowing hers, she began a career in the fast paced world of business. Raising a young family, and competing to rise higher in that field would drive some to the point of insanity, but she always found a moment of escape in a passing daydream. Her imagination would take her to places she'd never been, introduce her to people she's never known. Insight, her debuting novel, is a result of that powerful imagination. Today, she is grateful that not knowing what defined her, led her on a path of discovery that would always be a part of her.

Without further ado here are my top ten 5 book to movie adaptations I'm looking forward to! (I couldn't think of ten!)
