My review of this YA Historical Romance...
"There is no girl, no woman, in all the kingdoms who is better than you."
Squee...I am completely unequivocally smitten with Under the Trees!! How could I not be, it's a fairy tale with a happily ever after!! I've had a hard time describing the feel of this book. The one thing that keeps coming to mind is to imagine Ever After meshed with The Prince & Me + the movie Enough (starring Jennifer Lopez).
The chemistry between the two main characters Araya and Thor was virtually oozing off of the pages, especially with the element of forbidden love.
Our eyes met.
The shivery feeling ran down the length of my spine and butterflies fluttered inside my stomach. Deep down, there was an inexplicable pull toward him I didn't want to resist, but the fear of both rejection and intimacy kept me rooted in place. When I could stand the invisible lure no longer, I stepped back and averted my eyes, ending the strange connection.
After I found the courage to look up, the heat in Thor's eyes told me I wasn't the only one who felt something.
The writing was very well written, a wonderful debut! I must say, the flow kept me engrossed so much so that I finished this in one sitting!
The characters were very likable, refreshing and adorable! While this is a light read there is plenty of strife, struggle and twist to keep you interested. I admired Araya in many ways, one of them being that she wasn't afraid to demand a better life and go after it, even if it meant sacrificing!
All in all I found Under the Trees fun, refreshing, and just downright addicting! I do hope Ashley decides to write more books to this series!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something with a happily ever after, who loves strong heroines and romantic settings!
